UFC® FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION JOSE ALDO AND CONTENDERERIK KOCH ARE JOINED BY NICK RING AND UFC® DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS TOM WRIGHT AT SHAW COURT IN CALGARY 

TORONTO – The Ultimate Fighting Championship®, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization, announced today that tickets for its inaugural event in Calgary will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, May 12. UFC® 149: ALDO VS. KOCH sees featherweight champion Jose Aldo defend his145-pound crown against tenacious contender Erik Koch on Saturday, July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome. Both fighters will join local UFC® middleweight Nick Ring and UFC® Director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright for a press conference and other events (as listed below) in Calgary on Wednesday, May 9 at 10 a.m. MTN at Shaw Court.

The July 21 event marks the first of three UFC® events taking place in Canada in 2012 as Toronto (Sept. 22, location to be determined) and Montreal (Nov. 17, Bell Centre) are also set with UFC® dates this calendar year.

Lightweight World Champ Chandler TKOs Gono, Baker moves to Welterweight Final & Ford KO’s Santos at Bellator 67 from Casino Rama

Orillia, Ontario. (May 4, 2012) — Reigning Bellator Lightweight World Champion Michael Chandler proved once again how dangerous he is in the cage – and this time he needed only 56 seconds to make his point as the undefeated mixed martial artist crushed proven MMA veteran Akihiro Gono with a big right hand and pounced the seasoned Japanese fighter for the first-round TKO victory Friday night in front of a packed house at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario, Canada LIVE on MTV2 and in HD on EPIX.

Bryan Baker had a big night as well as the red-hot welterweight now moves onto the finals of the Bellator Season 6 Welterweight Tournament with a win against Ben “Killa B” Saunders. Ryan Ford was able to score a huge comeback victory over Bellator veteran Luis “Sapo” Santos, and Damian Grabowski picked up a dominant victory in the night’s other televised bout.

Rematches and a clearer framework of the Maximum Fighting Championship’s title picture were the end results of a wild night of action at MFC 33: Collision Course.

Held before a sold-out crowd at the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, and live on HDNet Fights across the United States, MFC 33 was topped by a dominant performance from Nathan “Soul Force” Coy whose relentless attack proved to be far too much for Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray in their showdown for the MFC welterweight title.

White hints at a big fight in January, on the eve of another big show on network TV

The minute he said it, the Twitter-verse and MMA blogosphere just about exploded.

During the UFC: Diaz vs Miller pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White stated “”we’re talking about doing some big fights here. If things work out the way they could, we’d end up doing a big fight probably in January.” And a big fight generally means a big arena, or better yet, a stadium in a popular market for the organization.

“If that fight happens, we’re looking at three venues. Obviously, always, Las Vegas is a venue. Dallas, Texas Stadium, and Toronto again, where we could hold huge events. If things go the way that they could go, by January we’re already talking about Dallas, Texas Stadium – Cowboys Stadium or whatever they call it.”

The most important, yet overlooked statement made by White is “if things go the way that they could go”. We’ve heard that time and time again, and unless the stars align, any talk of a big show in January is an MMA fantasy, but truth be told, it still can happen.

So who could headline such a card?
